Janet Rogers
Expressive; Loose Watercolor Portraits & Flowers

Sep 27 - Oct 2

4 Teaching Days

Description

Returning for the 14th year in 2026

We will begin this workshop with floral images in order to experience the discovery of color and value.  Through a series of fun painting exercises, students will be encouraged to develop a more loose and natural approach – giving them an opportunity to be more spontaneous and expressive in their paintings.

In our approach to learning how to interpret the head and figure, we will learn to express translucent flesh tones, while focusing on the gesture of the person.  Painting children will also be covered.  Although we will work primarily from photos, which can be mine that I bring-each student will get a photo of my demo.  I will send the photos ahead of time so you can trace or draw) – or you can bring your favorites!

In addition to class demonstrations throughout the workshop, Janet will work individually with each person also, making sure they understand the painting concepts – a truly “hands on” experience.  If time permits, we will do a few exercises on figures (I can supply photos – – (that have to be returned to me- but you can take a photo of any of mine – or any paintings!!!!) —-or you can bring some of your own!

We will be focusing on discovering how to control and make dynamic color, design and expression, we will also have “Show and Tell” – an opportunity to share and see how we exceed in our expectations!!!

ARTIST’S STATEMENT:

“I LOVE THE QUALITIES OF WATERCOLOR – ITS FLUID NATURE.  TO ME, THE INTERACTION OF ARTIST WITH THE MEDIUM IS LIKE A DANCE – FULL OF MOTION, FEELING AND EXPRESSION.  I LOVE TO WATCH THE PAINTING DEVELOP AND TO DISCOVER NEW COLOR AND COMPOSITION.  AS A TEACHER, I WOULD LIKE TO ENABLE STUDENTS TO FIND THEIR CONNECTIONS WITH WATERCOLOR IN A NEW AND EXPRESSIVE WAY.”   JANET ROGERS, AWS
