–  Painting in 3-primary colors (any red, yellow & blue)

–  How to blend facial features of portraits and pets, including hair, eyes, and mouth

–  How to soften or harden edges

–  Observing essential details such as light and shadow

–  To establish clothing detail

–  Tips on how to complement the subject with the background.

–  Have fun while defining your signature

CHOOSING THE RIGHT PHOTOS:

It is essential to select head and shoulders photos that convey the desired expression and pose. You can use your cell phone or pictures from home and get them printed at OfficeMax or Staples in 11″ x 17″ size on bond paper, in B&W, and in full color. The larger prints will provide better clarity for painting. It is recommended to bring multiple prints to have a variety of options to choose from.

If you don’t have a pet, you can still paint using a family pet or an animal.  I will also provide some generic photos and supplies to work with.

All levels are welcome.

Biography

Telagio Baptista is a recent transplant to Omaha, Nebraska. He was born and raised in Northern California.

Telagio has taken a winding and adventurous path to becoming a full-time professional watercolor artist. He owned a graphic design studio in Hawaii for 20 years, and was a concertmaster violist for a symphony. A professional golfer touring the South Pacific before returning to his ultimate passion – painting.

Telagio developed a love for the visual arts at a young age. His high school paintings won national awards. He was awarded a scholarship to the Fine Art Institute in San Francisco and finished his education at California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California.

His paintings have won regional, national, and international juried art competitions. Telagio is a portrait, figurative, cityscape, and seascape watercolor artist displaying various atmospheric painting techniques using a limited palette. He often utilizes negative space to allow his images room to “breathe” and to express a specific feeling and mood. For Telagio, every image is an attempt to tell a story.

Telagio works solely with watercolor. “Watercolor is magical, an exotic medium with no creative boundaries.” His images vary from realistic to somewhat more impressionistic.
