🌸 Days 1 & 2: Whimsical Flowers
We’ll kick things off with colorful, imaginative florals as you learn how to loosen up, layer your paints, and let your brush lead the way. You’ll explore:
- Creating dynamic floral compositions from imagination
- Building depth and volume through layers, color mixing, and texture
- Experimenting with acrylics and mixed media tools to add energy and dimension
- Students will create 1-2 works on paper and 1 larger main project on canvas
🏡 Days 3 & 4: Whimsical Houses
Then we’ll shift into a world of storybook neighborhoods and colorful cottages — scenes that blend playfulness with expressive design. You’ll discover how to:
- Sketch and design your own “village” of houses with personality and charm
- Build texture and pattern using acrylic paint and a variety of mixed media supplies
- Finish your paintings with layers of detail, color harmony, and storytelling touches
- Students will create 1-2 small house paintings on wood and 1 larger main project on wood

This four-day class is open to artists of all levels. You’ll receive step-by-step demos, individual feedback, and plenty of creative freedom to explore your own style. General supplies include acrylic paints, brushes, mixed media tools, and a few surprise materials shared in class. A full supply list will be provided prior to the workshop.

Biography
Jodi Ohl is a best-selling author, contemporary artist, and creative instructor known for her captivating abstract and whimsical compositions created through the combined use of acrylic and mixed media art supplies. After leaving her day job in 2011 as a bank manager to pursue her art, she has reinvented herself as an artist known for pushing creative boundaries and embracing experimentation. Jodi’s vibrant artworks reflect her unique creative voice and intuitive approach to artmaking. Originally from Dunkirk, NY, she now resides in Aberdeen, NC, and works in her home studio, traveling around the US and abroad several times a year to conduct art workshops and retreats.
Drawing inspiration from the world around her, Jodi translates emotions, experiences, and the beauty of nature into captivating visual narratives. Her art explores the interplay between chaos and harmony, pathways and connections, humor, and contemplation, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in a realm where imagination knows no bounds.
Jodi’s artistic journey has been marked by a deep commitment to continuous growth and learning. She has written numerous published articles and contributed to several art books, including her acclaimed solo work “Abstracts and Acrylic and Ink,” sharing her expertise, techniques, and insights with aspiring artists and students. Published in over 36 international mixed media magazines such as Cloth Paper Scissors, Somerset Studios, Artful Blogging, Artful Journaling, Somerset Holidays and Celebrations, Cloth Paper Scissors Studios, and Acrylic Artist, as well as a contributor to 7 mixed media books. For three years in a row, Jodi’s paintings have been featured in the curated books featuring the best of mixed media, Incite 2, 3 and 4. Recently, Jodi had the distinct honor of being the featured artist in Somerset Studio magazine’s Nov/Dec 2016 issue was a regular guest columnist for Cloth Paper Scissors. Jodi enjoys writing about her art and sharing the love of healing and motivation through creativity. She is represented by regional galleries in North Carolina and several others along the East Coast. In addition, Jodi is a popular mixed media art teacher online and in person, teaching at both large and small local and national workshops around the US.
