Dale L. Popovich
Waterfalls, Rivers & Rapids in Watercolor
Sep 18 - Sep 23
4 Teaching Days
Description
Returning for the 4th year in 2022
SPACE AVAILABLE IN THIS CLASS
In this 4 full-day workshop, the student will experience Dale L Popovich’s unique step-by-step instruction in transparent watercolor. Teaching as a paint-along will allow the student to watch, go back and recreate what was just painted. Dale also stresses to his students to ask as many questions as they wish while he is painting. Bring your camera because he lets you snap photos along the way. He feels sharing his knowledge in all forms is the key to excellent learning.
We will explore rivers, rapids, and waterfalls to understand the movement of the water on and around the rocks along the shorelines of the Northwoods. Dale will supply all photos.
Dale will show you:
- How to handle moving water in a relaxed, fluid way.
- How to naturally place the rocks along the border of the falls and rapids.
- How to convincingly work the rocks into the water to create realistic turbulence in the river’s flow.
- He will share his special techniques regarding convincingly anchoring the trees, foliage, and sky with the water.
- Understanding the many colors of water.
You will investigate the many facets of the color blue. How to understand the temperatures of blue and better understand cross-mixing with other colors so you can best capture the moving water and color variations. Dale will share how to mix greens with confidence so you can create a beautiful marriage of water and landscape. He will also demystify aerial perspective, helping you understand how to create distance in paintings or depth and much more…
So get ready to be wet and wild, painting the rapids and waterfalls of Northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
