Bob Burridge
Abstract Acrylic Painting – Abaco, Bahamas

Feb 17 - Feb 24

5 Teaching Days

Description

The harmony of painting together and celebrating a long friendship between Bob and Denny Robertson will be the new way to laugh – with the exclamation mark of both of these guys turning 80 years old in 2023!

What to Expect:
During this workshop week, Bob will customize instruction to the beautiful lifestyle and backdrop of the Bahamas. Instruction includes painting what you see, as well as common, everyday objects, local flora and the tropical Bahamian landscape – all with an eye toward abstraction. Bob said to Denny just recently… “We’re still standing and painting!” That’s 160 years of accumulated wisdom, passion and joy for creating art. They love to talk and paint; and boy, does Denny have the memories – and nobody believes all of Bob’s stories!

But wait! There’s more – Kate, Bob’s wife and manager, will offer informal art marketing sessions and consultations as part of the week-long workshop.

Bob’s “Loosen Up” workshops nurture individual success and personal enrichment with a big emphasis on painting at your own pace. Designed for the professional painter who is stuck in a style as well as for the novice who wants to conquer their fear of painting. Starting each day with multiple, small warm-up painting exercises, moving up to larger-format paintings, Burridge’s positive approach towards the act of painting will inspire you to loosen up, have fun again and paint more!

In addition to painting on the beach, an indoor painting location in the lodge’s lovely lounge and/or poolside. One day we will travel by water taxi to another island to paint and enjoy island cuisine. There will be plenty of time to paint on your own and explore the English heritage of the cay or nearby cays with friends and family. Bob will paint in acrylic and you may choose your painting medium. Class will be held Sat, Sun, Mon, Wed, and Thurs on Elbow Cay. Surrounding areas, are filled with activities for those not participating in the art classes. We can help with ideas, suggestions and arrangements.

Biography

Robert Burridge, a noted award-winning industrial designer who, after twenty-five years in the corporate world, focused his life to painting everyday. Burridge attributes his success to his education from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, his stint as an adjunct professor at Cooper Union in New York City, and in 1966, his Fluxus art performances with Yoko Ono, Nam June Paik, Jim McWilliams and Charlotte Moorman. His work hangs in permanent collections of international embassies, corporate galleries and art colleges. His solo museum exhibitions received positive attention, so he was invited to exhibit his paintings at the Smithsonian Folklife Circus Arts Festival in Washington, DC.
