Looking to Hide Out
In Wisconsin's Northwoods

  • Visit the set of Public Enemies, filmed at the actual location of John Dillinger's 1934 shoot out with the FBI (8 miles from Dillman’s)
  • Stay at Dillman's Bay Resort were 220 people can be accommodated either in traditional lakeside cottages and/or contemporary chalets and efficiencies

One of Dillman’s Bay Resort’s cottages was used as a hideout for Baby Face Nelson as he fled the FBI shoot out at Little Bohemia. On the snowy night of April 23, 1934, Baby Face Nelson ran through the Powell Marsh. While trying to avoid capture he found Mr. Allie Catfish’s log cabin on the shores of White Sand Lake. Baby Face Nelson’s cover was blown when locals from the Lac du Flambeau Indian Reservation saw Allie wearing a Chicagoland double-breasted suit and wing-tipped shoes, which Baby Face had exchanged with Allie.

In the winter of 1935, Allie’s home was purchased and moved across frozen White Sand Lake on skids to Dillman’s peninsula. It was to be part of the newly forming resort's accommodations. The cabin has been remodeled and expanded many times over the years and today stands alongside the rest of the resort's fantastic accommodations, where "famous people come to visit", (according to a local golf professional from nearby Trout Lake Golf Course).
