Workshop Fees

Since 1978 workshops have been conducted between May and October. The beautiful resort setting of Northern Wisconsin provides all-on-one-location convenience for our guests. It was Dennis Robertson’s vision to bring art workshops to the Dillman’s peninsula as well as sites around the world. Denny and the entire Dillman family look forward to welcoming you! While participating in the workshop you will enjoy art instruction, camaraderie with like-minded artists, resort amenities, and 24-hour access to our studios. For your convenience there is an on-site art supply/gift shop and the Tom Lynch Lending Library. For those staying on premise, there is a welcome dinner and reception included in the package price on the first night. Accommodations have cooking facilities for other meals. Lunches and dinners may be pre-ordered from the front desk. Dine-around dinners are optional. Dillman’s has been in the family resort business since 1934 and we know how to make your art experience a vacation that you will treasure.

Your friends and relatives will find a hearty welcome to the resort and there are activities for all interests. They are often found relaxing, fishing, golfing, or out exploring the quaint communities in our area. Our staff can assist with area information, maps, reservations, and discounts on golf.

Our instructors would like students to know that all levels of experience will feel comfortable in their workshops. Please contact us if you have specific questions. A typical workshop takes place indoors, providing students with personal table space, standing room, large format televisions, digital projection system and mirrored demonstration area with seating, and wash-up area. Studios are available 24-hours a day. Students have the conveniences of restrooms, fresh coffee, daily snacks, and indoor and outdoor seating areas for meals. Typically, instructors demonstrate and lecture in the morning followed by a student practice session. After lunch, the instructor may demonstrate again and students create until the class ends, around 4pm. Plein air workshops are based out of the studio for some demonstrations and critiques, but utilize the resort grounds for painting. Of course there’s always plenty of time to get to know your fellow students!

To offer the lowest possible cost, most of our workshops are tier priced according to the number of full-paying students. We will work with you and your fellow students in advance to establish the final cost closer to the start of the class. We hope you appreciate this attempt to assure your class will be offered and give you the added benefit of a small teacher student ratio in some classes. Also we encourage you to invite your friends to join you as the lower cost will reflect their joining in the fun. Call 715-588-3143 with questions.

Day students pay only the "Workshop Fee" (plus any model or material fees when applicable) for the class on either a prorated based on number of days attending. Day students are welcome to attend the Welcome Reception and Farewell Reception (included in your package). You are also invited to join the class dinners (additional fee). As a day student you are responsible for their own accommodations.

Class instruction (based on the number of teaching days for the individual class) with 24-hour studio time and model fees, where applicable. For the 4 and 5-day workshops, there is a welcome reception on the day of arrival, plus a mid-day champagne toast on the last day of class. Shorter classes vary in this respect. Specific class information and a list of supplies will be emailed in the “Welcome Packet,” emailed a month before the class starts. Your package also includes free use of extensive resort amenities and a complimentary pontoon ride.

Accommodations are for the night before the first day of class through the night of the last day of class, departing on the following day. The welcome dinner is included in the price. Lunches and dinners may be preordered. Dine-around dinner recommendations are provided. Individual workshop itineraries are listed on the bottom of each workshop description page.

Dillman’s combines rustic Northwood’s atmosphere with relaxed, casual elegance and convenience. Types of accommodations range from lakeside pine-paneled cabins to more contemporary efficiencies. Accommodations are assigned on available space. The size of the class’s registration plays a role in assignment of units. You are welcome to request a first and second accommodation choice. Rates listed assume double occupancy and we are glad to assign you a roommate. If a roommate is not available or if you prefer a single room (with your own bedroom and bathroom, however, this might include a shared common living space in some accommodation types) the cost is an additional $25 per night. Based on availability and at the discretion of Dillman's. If a roommate is not available, the single supplement charge will be applied.

EARLY ARRIVAL/LATE DEPARTURE:
Consider arriving a day early or staying a day later for a greatly reduced rate of $40 per person/per night:

  • Assume double occupancy at $40 per person per night, or
Single occupancy at $40 + $25 (single supplement) = $65 per person per night
  • Special rate applies for same unit occupancy
  • Special rate applies for one night stay either before or after your workshop, but not both nights

You are welcome to bring your PALs with you to Dillman’s – friends or family members that won’t attend your workshop, but stay in your unit and enjoy the resort amenities. PALs are subject to an additional accommodation fee of $45 per night +tax. (Children under 12 are half rate.) There is an additional charge of $25 +tax for PALs that partake in the Welcome Dinner (salad, entrée, dessert, beverage and tip).

For cancellations received six weeks prior to class, a full refund will be made minus a $75 service charge. Within 42 days (6 weeks) prior to the scheduled start date of the workshop there is NO refund. Dillman’s and the instructors make the decision, based on enrollment, to hold workshops six weeks before the scheduled date. We always feel badly when a personal emergency arises after this time period. However, we must strictly adhere to this policy. Refunds will not be issued for classes missed due to illness, emergencies or events beyond our control. No-shows will not receive a refund, regardless of the circumstances. If you drop out of a class once it has started, you will not receive a refund. We reserve the right to cancel any workshop, in which case we will make a full refund. Trip cancellation insurance is strongly recommended.

Please reserve your workshop space as early as possible to avoid disappointing class cancellations. With MasterCard, Visa or personal check it is easy to make your $425 advance deposit, $200 for a Day Student. An additional $100 deposit will hold space for your PAL. We prefer that you pay your remaining balance upon arrival by check or cash. Reservations will be held only for two weeks without deposit. Please visit www.dillmans.com/register to sign up for your workshop. To pay by check: send your advanced deposit check, made out to Dillman’s, to PO Box 98, Lac du Flambeau, WI 54538.
