Tom Jones

Solutions to Techniques

May 27-June 1, 2019 (Four Teaching Days)

Tom is a wilderness/landscape painter, with more than thirty years of teaching both plein air and classroom workshops internationally. Tom also is a guest watercolor instructor at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design at the Savannah Georgia campus). Tom teaches an easy approach to having a beautiful watercolor with his signature impressionist look of mist and atmosphere. He will take you through mixing the right colors and how to apply the first washes then how to use darker values of color to carve out the details and final shapes for a beautiful, look with bold colors and strong impact that will excite and capture the heart and eye of any who view your paintings. Students are encouraged to bring cameras and be prepared to take notes and ask a lot of questions as Tom will give you more information than you expect.

"I am a story teller. I tell stories with my paintings of places I have been and things I have seen. I believe that a painting should not only tell a story, but should have a story behind it. All my paintings do." -Tom Jones

Tom began painting at an early age and has had many years of study, some with well known artist. Two of Tom's favorite western artists are Thomas Moran and Charles M. Russell. A resident of Central Florida, Tom has been commissioned by government agencies, corporations, environmental groups, clubs and private collectors. In answer to popular demand, he typically produces his watercolor landscapes in a series of three or five paintings around a specific theme. His art can be found internationally in many private and corporate collections, including commissioned paintings displayed in the Florida State Capitol Building, Walt Disney World Corporation, the Omni Corporation and Museums. Tomís work has been featured in many books, magazine articles, posters and brochures. Tom shares his passion for art and love of nature with students of varying skill levels through international workshops, demonstrations, instructional watercolor books and DVDs.
