Margaret (Peggy) Carter Baumgaertner

Mentoring Workshop: A Directed Critique

August 28-Sept 2, 2016 (Four Teaching Days)

In the Baumgaertner Mentoring Workshop, the artist's work in progress is not just critiqued; the artist is encouraged, directed, and shown solutions to the myriad of technical and esthetic questions that arise during the undertaking of a painting. This is truly a unique opportunity to not just receive a critique for a piece of art, but to also gain hands-on solutions to structural challenges, and bringing a painting to completion.

The student works from their own photo reference, either on a new painting or a work in progress. While Baumgaertner's primary field of expertise is portraiture, her mentoring workshop is open to all art disciplines, including still life and landscape. The small class size and personal teaching method allows for attention to the individual artist that leads to tremendous progress. Baumgaertner also offers practical, solid, usable advice in all areas of the painting process, including the business of art.

The student will be contacted by Baumgaertner prior to the workshops for a pre-mentoring session to maximize workshop efficiency.

"Peggy's Mentoring Workshop has had an enormous effect on my professional career. I made huge leaps during the short duration of the class, and her spot on critiques and encouragement paved the way for my transition from an amateur artist to a professional! It’s the best class I’ve ever taken!” Pat, Des Moines, IA
