Learn How to Create Beautiful Watercolor Landscapes with Easy-to-Paint Shapes

May 21-26, 2016 (Four Teaching Days)

Joyce's workshop emphasis is on techniques and strategies for transforming ordinary scenes into extraordinary ones with watercolor. Joyce teaches simple easy-to-learn methods that will appeal to beginners as well as seasoned artists looking for renewed inspiration. You will learn from clear explanations with verbal insight into her reasoning behind artistic decisions and visually from daily step-by-step demonstrations. She will show you how easy it is to turn complicated landscape subjects into easy-to-paint shapes and share her simple steps for turning boring landscape scenes into exciting works of art. Afternoons are devoted to helping students reach their artistic potential with one-on-one instruction. Joyce’s passion and love for teaching inspires and motivates in a fun, fast-paced workshop. Following are a few of the topics she’ll cover:

  • how to create the illusion of depth in your landscape scenes
  • how to declutter and streamline complicated scenes
  • begin working toward a signature style by developing a visual language to paint by
  • learn steps for designing strong compositions
  • learn how to make artistic decisions by painting “relationships” instead of “things”
  • learn how to turn simple shapes into easy-to-paint landscape symbols
  • learn how to use important design principles to create exciting paintings
  • learn to work with photographs, sketch books and color studies
  • gain confidence by implementing important planning strategies
  • enjoy daily lectures and watercolor demonstrations
  • one-on-one instruction for all as group size allows

Artist Statement
My wish is to connect with the landscape in an intimate and personal way. My purpose is to celebrate my vision with brush and paint in hope that the joy I feel will also be felt by those who view my work.

Artist Bio
Joyce is an award winning, Internationally recognized artist who holds Signature Status Membership in the American Watercolor Society. She is self-taught and has been on a continuous journey acquiring knowledge and finding her inspiration in the landscape. Her work has been widely published and most recently appeared in the pages of the popular Splash 12, 13 and 15 Books and the Art Journey America Landscapes Book. Her painting "Out Santa Rosa Creek Road" was chosen by Watercolor Artist Magazine for their April 2011 cover as well as a feature story about her work and travels. Her latest accomplishment is a Fine Art Book by North Light “Painting Beautiful Watercolor Landscapes” and several full-length instructional DVDs. She continues to travel frequently in search of beautiful places to paint and keeps a busy calendar presenting gallery talks, giving demonstrations and conducting watercolor workshops Internationally and across the USA. She is passionate about teaching others how they too can transform ordinary landscapes subjects into extraordinary ones using her simple, easy-to-learn methods and techniques.

Dine-Around Dinners: Registration required at the front desk, meet at 5:00pm in the main lobby for carpooling.

Day students are welcome to attend the Welcome Reception and Farewell Reception (included in your package). You are also invited to join the class dinners (additional fee). PAL’s (Participants at large) can vacation at Dillman’sfor $45 per night for accommodations. Costs for box lunches and dinners are additional.
