Andy’s workshop will focus on simplifying your paintings by concentrating on large shapes. Too often watercolors fail to incorporate lost edges and take advantage of the inherent ‘looseness’ of the medium. Our brains are trained to see separations instead of the obvious possibilities for connections and large shapes, thus the tendency toward hard edges and the little white gaps that break up a painting. Andy will demonstrate every day, and we’ll begin by focusing on value studies and move toward color paintings, covering all aspects of the landscape.
Andy has been painting watercolors for over 20 years, and has become a sought after workshop instructor who paints and travels internationally. He has served as President of the Plein Air Painters of America and the Minnesota Watercolor Society. He received his signature status in the American Watercolor Society and the Northwest Watercolor Society in 2015, and has received both the Bronze Medal and the High Winds Medal from AWS. His watercolors have been featured in numerous publications including ‘International Artist ‘, ‘American Artist’, ‘Watercolor Artist’ and ‘Fine Art Connoisseur’ magazines.
