Susan Louise Moyer     Sept 5–11 , 2012 (Five Teaching Days)
DyeColour™ Painting on Silk Process, Techniques

Susan Louise MoyerWatercolor artists as well as silk painters will find this workshop to be an exciting departure from tradition and an inspiration for new artistic directions. The DyeColour™ process involves making a sizing and treating the silk so that liquid dyes can be applied without the use of a resist. The painting demonstrations will focus on mountains, sky, reflections, surf and letting the water do the work. As the inspired artist develops ideas that involve multiple techniques, the potential of this creative medium expands to meet the needs of the artist, allowing the artist to grow. If you're interested in creating representational flora and fauna, landscapes and/or abstract and edgy art, this medium is worth exploring.

The first day is a over view of the the DyeColour™ process which involves making latex treatment and sizing the surface of the silk so that liquid dyes can be applied without the use of a resist. We will set up a palette, learn to mix clean color, and create luminosity through color transitions. During the next two days day will focus on the steam fixation process, how to remove the latex treatment and a discussion and demonstration on care and presentation ideas for DyeColour™ paintings. During the remaining days we will explore how the diversity of the medium gives the artist a smorgasbord of wonderful techniques to use for creative expression. The repertoire of painting techniques demonstrated include: wet-in-wet, dry-in-wet, washes, hard and soft edges, lifting and adding color, backgrounds, masking, stenciling and wax resist.
