25 Years of Music Collaboration

Husband and wife team, Ed Willett, Music Director of the Big Top Chautauqua, and Cheryl Leah, lead singer, are offering their 25 Years of Music Collaboration class in song writing. Their specialties are guitar, cello and voice. For some writing a song is a solitary act, for others it's a process that feels best when shared with another writer. This is the case for Ed and Cheryl. Their collaborations have found their way onto film sound tracks, television shows (Northern Exposure) concert pieces for choir and orchestra and on their many recordings. They are excited to invite song writing teams interested in exploring ideas for new collaborations. We'll have a great time and you will leave with enough technique and inspiration to enhance your future song writing collaborations for years to come. Bring samples of your own completed tunes and one tune you are still working on. Bring the instruments necessary to perform your compositions.

Birth, Death, and Anything in Between: Carrying Our Stories and Learning to Tell Them

Tom Mitchell, Washburn, Wi will be sharing his story telling techniques in his workshop entitled Birth, Death, and Anything in Between: Carrying Our Stories and Learning to Tell Them. Tom says we all have a story to tell. Our story. We carry it with us wherever we go. This workshop will attend to sharing those stories and learning to express them in a way guaranteed to engage our own ears and the ears of our listeners. We will concentrate on stories of birth: our own, our parents, children, relatives, loved ones, and Friends. We will also attempt to tackle our stories of death. These are highly charged areas inside us. We carry these stories with us at all times. They are eager to get out into the open air. We will also take time to examine the stories of "anything in between". The goal is to express ourselves, to tell our story no matter what it is. "God must love stories, that's why there are so many people". We will concentrate on content, structure, flow, delivery, projection, timing and the uses of silence. Participants should go away with a stronger confidence in their ability to "tell the story" and with a renewed appreciation for the power and importance of carrying their own stories.
