Watercolor: It's Only An Illusion!
New to Dillman’s
www.judybarnewolt-jones.com
This watercolor workshop, with its casual and friendly atmosphere, is the perfect setting to reconnect and get past a plateau, with inspiration at hand and the focus on you! Judy will use a three-step approach that can help you simplify your own painting process. There will be application techniques used to create illusions of texture, light and movement. You will spend some time getting comfortable with an emotional color palette, renew your understanding of how color affects mood and its impact on glowing light and shadows. You will revisit composition placement and the importance of values in your work. There will be optional critiques, both individual and group, that are handled in a non-threatening and constructive manner.
You will have lots of time to paint with individual instruction. Be prepared, we are gonna have fun! This workshop is intended for those with some watercolor experience to intermediate level. Judy Barnewolt-Jones has become one of the most sought-after watercolorists around, perfecting her craft over the years through workshops and private study. Judy's medium is transparent watercolors. She generally begins a piece with a light wet-into-wet sketch, which serves as an underpainting, setting up tones and movement. Then, stretched and dried, the painting takes shape via a layering of watercolor glazes and different brush strokes, dry brushing and negative painting. Her love for strong values and textures requires many glazes to enhance each piece.
Accompanying some of her pieces is a personal writing that helps reveal her inspiration, as well as adding yet another dimension to an already compelling style. The writings help others look beyond the obvious visual content and allow the viewer to take an emotional or spiritual journey.
Recently, Judy began exploring the images created by Polaroid emulsions of her paintings. The irregular edges and distortions common to the emulsions provide a unique and original format for an almost miniature reproduction.
