Gloria Miller Allen     May 13–18, 2012 (Four Teaching Days)
Powerful Tools for Powerful Painting

Gloria's workshop is designed for the serious student who desires a firm grasp of basics. She believes powerful academic practices are fundamental to growth. Her down-to-earth studies promote confidence and better understanding not only of the basic tools we all want at our fingertips: color, values, design, perspective, creative spirit, but also the development of a rich awareness of personal strengths, weaknesses, preferences, emerging-style, and a focus on personal artistic goals. Gloria's media is watercolor but artists of other medias are welcome because most of the lessons apply to ART in general. Your time will be spent between color, values, design, and finally pulling it all together.

She finds the more experienced the artist, the more willingness there is to dig into basics. However, there is no better place for beginners than to do the same. Gloria lived in Idaho for over 30 years, though she spent her childhood in the Midwest. Her first job was in the Litho Art Department of Hallmark Cards headquarters in Kansas City. Gloria was 18 years old, and learned an incredible amount about color and value contrasts in painting. After marriage, she and her husband moved to Corvallis, OR for his graduate program. After a PhD, they moved their family of five to East Brunswick, New Jersey for about 5 years - then they moved to Idaho. She has painted all her life, but out west it became more of a passion. From Mid-America and from Coast to Coast Gloria has enjoyed and struggled with paint. In April of 2006 she received signature membership in the American Watercolor Society (AWS). She also holds signature membership in The Transparent Watercolor Soc. of America (TWSA), Watercolor West (WW), and the North West Watercolor Soc. (NWWS).

She has always considered her drawing-board her classroom, and loves the image of being a perpetual student. Thousands of paintings become un-purchasable knowledge. She is grateful that her life has allowed her to explore this watercolor world.
