Capturing “Whimsical Children” in Watercolor
New to Dillman’s
www.spanbauerart.com
What could be more fun than painting the giggles and wiggles of children building a sand castle or digging for shells by the sea shore? Painting children is very rewarding. It is a subject that we all know and love. Painting children is a great learning tool for handling watercolor techniques – they require that light touch to capture their pure skin tones. You will learn how to capture the innocence and wonder in the children’s eyes, the soft flow in their cheeks, and the mud splashed on their dirty jeans. Susan will share the special techniques necessary to mix colors for their facial tones, the sassy sparking eyes, the soft shine in their windblown hair, and their pouting lips.
We will create our subjects from photos and learn to draw and transfer them to watercolor paper. We will have a small session on drawing and proportion of children. There will be hands-on help for the beginner. If your drawing skills need help, I will have something special for you in class. Everyone will have a delightful drawing on their paper, ready to paint, even if you are a new watercolorist. You will learn to create the “children’s glow”, deal in shadows, leave highlights, study warm and cold skin tones, work with textures and fabrics, and then decide on the right background for your painting. Look in your photos and I’m sure you will find that extra special shot of a child doing something adorable. Come and join us as we paint the “Whimsical Children”.
There is nothing like the “great outdoors” in Wisconsin to sit and listen to the quiet and view mother nature’s glorious beauty. Dillman’s Creative Arts Foundation, with its hospitality, comfort and serenity is sure to stir your creative spirit.
