Spring Escape with Colored Pencil
Second Year at Dillman's

Colored Pencil. Sophistication. Not words we would easily associate with each other given our intro to colored pencil in grade school. Well, plan for an awakening. When colored pencil is applied on dark paper with a layering technique, which avoids wax build up, produces dead-on-accurate color, and captures minute detail within any subject, it becomes a dream-come-true medium. Though the technique is time consuming, it is also totally absorbing and gratifying, a healthy an inexpensive escape from life’s routine. Let’s have fun!
Abbreviated syllabus:
- Intro to colored pencil through other’s works
- Hands-on “stroke exercise” practicing application options
- Composition review
- Development of customized final artwork
- Group and one-on-one demos and discussions throughout the 3 day workshop
Rhonda can primarily thank her high school art teacher’s words “you will never be an artist” for catapulting a stubborn, German teenager into the vocation she’s been excited about for over 35 years. Beginning as a graphic designer/illustrator, moving to specialized nature illustration, then expanding to include art instruction, Rhonda currently focuses on commissions and workshop, passing on 3+ decades of drawing and painting experience. Graphite or colored pencil drawings and acrylic paintings are exhibited in museum, gallery, private and corporate collections and are reproduced in advertising, editorial and book publications worldwide. Her teaching venues include: The Morton Arboretum (outside Chicago, IL), New York Botanical Gardens, Denver Botanical Gardens, Olbrich Gardens (Madison, WI) and Touchstone Center for Crafts (outside Pittsburg, PA). Rhonda is continuously grateful for a living that brings such joy.
Rhonda is a member of the: American Society of Botanical Artists, Guild of Natural Science Illustrators, Colored Pencil Society of America, Allied Artists of American, Artmates, and Nature Artists Guild.
Studio: Intermediate to Advanced.
