Nine Patch Revisisted—Moving from Traditional to Contemporary
New to Dillman’s
Frequently traditional quilts are art works in themselves often with wonderful histories and memories attached to them. Nine Patch Revisited will allow even the novice quilter an opportunity to take the simple pattern Nine Patch and make it unique and distinctive. Without patterns Rene will demonstrate, assist, offer color suggestions, and ease the participate to working out of the box.
Friday evening Rene will discuss her transition from traditional to contemporary including “How does she come up with these ideas.” A trunk show of her transition will inspire others on moving from standard patterns and fabrics to uniquely individualized pieces.
Saturday’s workshop from 8:30–3:30 will be spent cutting, sewing, and assembling a small piece. The techniques learned can be applied to larger pieces including bed quilts. Very basic instructions on embellishing your piece will be also demonstrated.
Saturday evening and Sunday morning she will be available for questions prior to check out for those staying up late in the studio.
Rene Iannarelli, newly retired, has time to apply techniques in color theory, design processes, embellishments, surface design, sun printing, hand dying, felting ,fine piecing, and painting on fabric she has learned over the last thirty years of quilting. Putting aside the world of health care after 30 years, she dreams of fabric creations and envisions how techniques learned thoughout the years can be applied to new designs. Rene has taken classes from national and international quilting experts including Karen Combs, Bonnie Browning, Margaret Miller, Wendy Bulter Berns, Gloria Hansen, Liz Porter, and Doreen Speckman. Additionally, she has taught classes on Sunshine and Shadow, Lone Star, Attic Windows, Striped Drunkard’s Patch, and Three Dimensional Bow Tie.
