Woodland Ways Art Event & Feast is the 3rd annual Benefit for Northwoods NiiJii Woodland Arts Initiative. Everyone is Welcome to join the community of Lac du Flambeau in celebrating the Woodland arts and culture. The event includes Native arts demonstrations with local Master artists; flute performance; a Traditional Ojibwe Feast and a raffle featuring original works of art and other great prizes!

Schedule of Events:

3:00pm – 5:00pm
Native Arts Demonstrations with Master artists from Lac du Flambeau. Master artists from Lac du Flambeau will be talking about their work, the history of the art and giving demonstrations on their art making techniques.

Artists: Greg Johnson, Ojibwe beading and tanning; Sandra and David Peterson, Birch Bark Basketry; Jerry LaBarge, Decoy Carving and Hand Drums; Wade Fernandez, Traditional Flute making.

5:15pm – 6:00pm
Native Flute Performance with Wade Fernandez from the Menominee Indian Nation Wade is the recipient of "Best Male Artist of the Year" award from the NAMMYS.

6:30pm – 8:00pm
Traditional Ojibwe Feast and Raffle
Local culinary master and Lac du Flambeau Tribal member Robyne Thompson is back this year to offer up a variety of traditional ojibwe foods with a uniquely contemporary twist. Mint tea, Wild Rice, Fish, Vegetables, Berry Deserts, and yes hot out of the oil Fry Bread! Every year the menu continues to evolve. We will sell raffle tickets before and during the event for an amazing selection of Native arts including: Floral beaded checkbook covers; a hand carved fish decoy; birch bark baskets; porcupine quill earrings; and the grand prize of a hand carved deer antler cribbage board.

The Benefit is Free and Open to Everyone. Your Tax deductible donations will benefit Northwoods NiiJii’s Woodland Indian Arts Initiative. Raffle tickets $2.00 for one or 3 for $5.00

Northwoods NiiJii will use funds from this event to support the Woodland Indian Arts Initiative. Launched in 2008 Northwoods NiiJii’s Woodland Indian Arts Initiative is part of NiiJii’s overall mission to empower residents to eliminate poverty through successful partnership grounded in Native American Culture and Values. In 3 short years NiiJii’s Woodland Indian Arts Initiative has: built the Woodland Indian Art Center and Gallery in Lac du Flambeau; supported the Native Artist Entrepreneurial Program providing entrepreneurial training to Native artists; funded master artists and culture bearers to pass on traditional art making to emerging artists and Native youth; provided seed funds for cultural projects including the the Lac du Flambeau Indian Bowl.

All proceeds from this event will support the Woodland Indian Arts Initiatives including: Development of the Native Arts Management program; Native arts internships and apprenticeships; Master artists and Native Youth programming as well as continued support for the Woodland Indian Art Center in Lac du Flambeau!
