Discover Texture, Color & Feeling in Mixed Media

Jan Sitts Artwork By combining aggressive textures and unusual mediums with various "raw" materials the end result in abstract painting is the creative accomplishment. This method presents the magnetism that is the attraction to mixed media. Many techniques, materials, compositions and above all, emotions play off of each other when creating the piece. The adventure is not knowing where you are going with it... until you get there! You will become enlightened as you journey through this process. You must be willing to let go of old painting habits and you will gain knowledge about layering of textures, colors and feelings, and executing shapes by utilizing positive and negative space. This is the cultivation of creativity that nurtures our souls.

Jan Sitts is an internationally known painter, instructor, and author whose unique work has been embraced by art lovers for the past 35 years. She was formally trained at the Kansas City Art and received her B.A. in Fine Art from Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado. Jan has worked in the commercial arts, movie animation, as a gallery director and in various other positions in the arts. She is currently represented in 4 contemporary art galleries and has recently published a book, TEXTURE-COLOR-FEELING.

"My work is a reflection of who I am. I work in a spontaneous manner until I have built up a surface on a support by texturing, layering papers, and painting. Often repeating this process many times. As the work develops, it becomes more important to me then the satisfaction I feel with the final image."

Jan has numerous memberships in national artist societies. She is a member of:

  • The Arizona Watercolor Association
  • The Sedona Visiting Artist Workshop Program
  • The International Society of Experimental Artists
  • The National Society of Acrylic Painters
  • Society of Layerists (Arizona State Coordinator)
