Ron Sanders PAA     September 5-10, 2010 (Four Teaching Days)
The Portrait in Outdoor Light in Oil and Acrylics

Ron Sanders Portrait Learn how to bring light and life into your portraits with temperature based color. Develop a greater sensitivity to color shifts within skin tones by studying the portrait in outdoor lighting and by eliminating most browns from your palette. See how primary, secondary and reflected light create emotional energy in portraits and make flesh tones glow with life. Control values to build a stronger statement of form while accentuating likeness. Class will include lecture, demos, studio exercises and painting from the model outdoors and back in the studio.

Ron received his BFA in illustration at the Columbus College of Art & Design in Columbus, Ohio, where he graduated with honors. He has been represented by agents in New York and Chicago and has produced illustrations in a variety of media for advertising and promotional material, books, calendars and newspapers. His clients have included Spike TV, Doubleday Bookclub, Harcourt, McGraw Hill, The Boy Scouts, regional newspapers and others. Ron also has experience in digital prepress for the printing industry where he broadened his understanding of color. With a strong foundation in representational art and an introduction to the painting methods of the old masters at CCAD, Ron pursued the traditions of academic oil painting after college, which led to the exhibition of his work in more than a dozen galleries nationwide. Later, Ron studied impressionism and alla prima painting with George Strickland, president of the PAPA, and with Chinese artist, Huihan Liu. Ron continues to explore the balance between the formalities of academic work and the expressive and romantic qualities of impressionist influences through the medium of oil paint. His 30+ years experience as a commissioned fine artist and gallery painter have led to the exhibition of his work in prestigious national juried shows as well as public, private, corporate, and museum collections.
