Mark Southard PSA     Sept 19-25, 2010 (Five Teaching Days)
Adobe Photoshop Elements

Mark Southard This class is for both the traditional photographer who wants to discover the “digital darkroom” and those who just want to learn how to use this technology to make better prints. You will learn how to use the power of this software to maximize the look and appeal of your images. Topics will include understanding Photoshop Elements icons, tools, filters, layers, resolution, file size, cropping, coloring, photo restoration, collages, converting color images to black and white, making panoramas, and image sharpening for maximum print quality.

We are doing this class at this special time to take advantage of the availability of fall color as we will be photographing and using these images as part of our class.

Bring some of your favorite images on memory cards, cds, dvds, or jump drives as the focus for 2010 will be working on your images to make them look their very best.

It is not mandatory to have a digital camera but you will need to have a laptop computer with which you are familiar, and loaded with Photoshop Elements software. This class is oriented for PC users…If you have a Mac you must know how to operate it effectively. This class will expand your horizons while you work at a comfortable and creative pace.

Mark has conducted many classes and workshops as a Creative Use Consultant for Polaroid. He taught traditional fine art black and white photography as well as matting and framing at Wright College in Chicago.

Note – You should already be familiar with your digital camera and your computer.

Mark’s philosophy about teaching photography and Elements is to have fun and to enjoy this great hobby we all share. Both film photography and digital capture are very satisfying but having full control of your images in Photoshop will multiply your enjoyment exponentially. Mark is a member of the Photographic Society of America (PSA) and has received the honor of Associate. Has served on the national board and is currently Vice President of the Print Division. Also belongs to the Canadian Association of Photographic Arts, (CAPA) and serves as Regional Director for the U.S. He belongs to the Photographic Society of Hawaii, has served on the board of the Chicago Area Camera Club Association, belongs to the Nature Camera Club of Chicago, the Wright Camera Club, and the Pixel Image Camera Club.

He has presented programs for both PSA and CAPA, and for SWMCCC (the Southwest Michigan Camera Club Council), for the Chicago Area Camera Club Association (CACCA), for the New England Camera Club Association (NECCC), and for the Photographic Society of Hawaii.
