Mastering Design: The Winning Edge

Margot Schulzke Design is the focus in Margot’s workshop. You are encouraged to work in your own style, from realism to impressionism and abstraction – in any medium. The instructor’s media are pastel and oil, but since design principles are universal, all media are welcome. Engaging in lively discussions and using original exercise in design, you’ll find yourself mastering design concepts and see your work growing stronger throughout the week. With demos, critiques and generous individual help at the easel, you will come away finding you have really learned something. The author of A Painter’s Guide to Design and Composition, Margot has written a column for The Pastel Journal for ten years. She is widely known as an effective communicator who inspires confidence and individuality in her students. She believes in the infinite and literal capacity of the human mind to grown.

A longtime columnist for The Pastel Journal, with scores of articles there and elsewhere to her credit, Marogt Schulzke’s book, A Painter’s Guide to Design and Composition (North Light) was released to rave reviews in 2006. Margot holds a BA in art education, a background evident in her effective teaching methods. One student described her as “laser surgery for my mind.” She has been listed in Who’s Who in American Art since 1993, as well as listed in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in American Women. With over forty years of teaching experience, she is a much sought-after teacher, widely regarded as an authority on the subject of composition and design.

Her work has been featured in a number of books, including Best of Pastel, Best of Pastel II, Pure Color, the Best of Pastel; Landscape Inspirations and Pastel Interpretations, and was the subject of a feature article in The Pastel Journal December, 2008.
