Painting Life-Like Florals in Watercolor

Laurin McCrackenCome and enjoy adding a higher level of realism to your painting. Laurin is national renowned watercolorist that specializes in realism. Learn traditional watercolor techniques to create fresh, dynamic paintings. His lectures, demonstrations and exercises will give you all the tools you will need to create striking florals at any scale, large or small. He will show you how important lighting is to getting the right image. He will show you how to use the two-brush technique to make three-dimensional realism on your two-dimension painting surface. His lectures will trace the development of still life painting and how the basic watercolor techniques have been most successfully used by the great painters.

There will be a lot of opportunity for personal assistance is helping you add additional tools to your tool box. He will also discuss how to use digital photography to capture images as painting source material and how to best record your finished painting. Join other painters in a workshop where the emphasis is on having an enjoyable experience while learning to paint better.

Laurin is the Chief Marketing Officer of Jacobs Global Building NA in Ft. Worth, Texas. He has put the skills learned over the years in drawing, photography and observation to use as a watercolorist. He studied with Gwen Bragg at the Art League School in Alexandria, Virginia and with Alain Gavin at the Art Institute in Chicago. He has paintings in corporate and private collections, including McGraw-Hill's Corporate Collection and the Urban Land Institute. He also has photographs in the Graphics Arts Collection, Princeton University.

Born in Meridian, Mississippi, he holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Architecture from Rice University and a Masters in Architecture and Urban Planning from Princeton University. He has traveled extensively in Europe, the Middle East and Japan, both as a practicing architect, a photographer and a painter. His photographs have been widely published in architectural journals and as book covers and book illustrations.

Laurin is an award-winning artist whose paintings have been exhibited in juried shows coast to coast including the Philadelphia Water Color Society, Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society, Pittsburgh Watercolor Society and the Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors, California Watercolor Society, Southern Watercolor Society and the American Watercolor Society.

Day students are welcome to attend the Welcome Reception and Farewell Reception (included in your package). You are also invited to join the class for breakfasts and dinners (additional fee).

PAL’s (Participants at large) can vacation at Dillman’s for $300, includes accommodations. Costs for breakfasts, dinners and receptions are additional.
