Vibrant Watercolors

Alvaro Castagnet Learn the secrets of producing vibrant and powerful watercolors from internationally recognized watercolorist, Alvaro. You will search for light effects and depth, with shadows contrasting loose and tight brushstrokes to enhance the focal point and exploring color mixing, paying special attention to tonal values. Alvaro will give you useful tools and advise on how to handle watercolor to capture mood and atmosphere. This is a fun filled workshop for the adventurous artist willing to explore wider horizons. There will be plenty of demos and individual guidance in a fun and productive environment. The class will paint on location, weather permitting.

FIFTH DAY: A full size painting of a Street scene with a very subdued light (early morning or late afternoon). Excellent exercise and very challenging one, where values play a very important role, along with bBroad washes to practice color mixing and wet on wet techniques.

IN GENERAL: Every day we will be conducting critique of the painting in progress. I walk among the students’ work, giving them friendly advice on how I think they could improve their work, to help them make the most of every painting opportunity.

On the last day, will be the final critique session, where every student will show the best painting they have produced, and will go home not only feeling great, with their achievement, but realizing how much they have learned after having so much fun, and with a clear understanding of the strength and weakness of their paintings.
