Jan Sitts NAWS, SLMM, NCS     September 6 – 11, 2009 (Four Teaching Days)
Visual Sensations in Mixed Media

Your sensibilities will take you on a whirlwind adventure as you discover materials, textures, and surfaces that you have never thought possible. The process of layering with non-traditional art materials along with acrylic paint and ink will move you into unfamiliar territory which improves your expressiveness and uniqueness. Experimental art, or the making of it, is the process of putting together materials on various surfaces while responding to the outcome as an idea. This idea may be carried from one painting to the next. Abstraction in design will be the focus.

In Jan's more than thirty years as an art instructor and professional painter, she continues her exploring and experimentation with the mediums. Her accomplishments in the art arena are many, working in commercial art, teaching in public schools, and teaching international workshops. Her studies include the Kansas City Art Institute (Kansas City, Missouri), a B.A. degree at Western State College (Gunnison, Colorado), and ongoing workshops and seminars in the arts.

"My work is a reflection of who I am. I work in a spontaneous manner until I have built up a surface on a support by texturing, layering papers, and painting. Often repeating this process many times. As the work develops, it becomes more important to me then the satisfaction I feel with the final image."

Jan has numerous memberships in national artist societies. She is a member of:

  • The Arizona Watercolor Association
  • The Sedona Visiting Artist Workshop Program
  • The International Society of Experimental Artists
