23 – 29, 2007 (Five Teaching Days) www.janejonesartist.com Realism, detail, luminous color...if these are some of the qualities that you want in your still life paintings, then this is the class for you. As artists we are so quickly attracted and entertained by color. It’s the focus of our lives! And that’s what this workshop is about. The master artists of the past used the technique of underpainting and glazing to make their colors as beautiful and luscious as possible. Artists have traditionally used relatively slow drying media for this technique, but we will be using alkyd mediums, which dry more quickly and are much easier and convenient to use. Students will work from still life set-ups or photographs and drawings provided by Jane. A neutral color underpainting will be developed that is based on study of the values of the composition. Glazes of gorgeous transparent color will be layered for a beautiful luminous glow. Attention will be paid to sculpting the forms with color and creating the illusion of light. This workshop is great for beginners who are concerned with controlling the painting process and for more advanced students who want to learn another technique for creating the illusions of reality. The “why’s” of all of the techniques will be explained so that you will understand how to make an oil painting in layers that will be stable and archival. Jane’s high-energy enthusiasm for art is contagious. She shares her information through slide presentations, demonstrations, individual instruction and a final critique. Her work has received several awards at the Salmagundi Club and National Arts Club, both in New York City. Jane is the author of Classic Still Life Painting and is listed in several Who’s Who publications. Feature articles have been written about she and her work in Southwest Art, The Artist’s Magazine, International Artist, and Art-Talk. Jane’s paintings are in the permanent collection of the St. Louis University Art Museum and have been exhibited at the Gilcrease Museum, the National Museum of Wildlife Art, the West Valley Art Museum and the Colorado History Museum. Her work is shown in galleries in Scottsdale, Arizona; Palm Desert, California; Santa Fe, New Mexico; and Charleston, South Carolina. Studio: Something for all levels.

You are also invited to join the class for breakfasts and dinners (additional fee). PAL’s (Participants at large) can vacation
