William Scott Jennings OPA     June 24 – 29, 2007 (Four Teaching Days)
Plein Air Oil

This course is geared toward the student who is seeking to build skills in painting outdoors with demonstrations by Scott in outdoor painting techniques, design concepts, materials and preparation. Demonstrations will offer an in-depth look at the artist’s thought process and technical applications that are needed to become proficient in plein air painting. Each day the class will be painting outdoors at various locations. Scott will offer instruction and information as the classes’ paintings progress, assessing and guiding the works as they are being developed. Open discussions of art concepts and practical applications will help the students gain the necessary fundamentals needed to develop their talents in this exciting art genre. The class has been limited to 16 students to guarantee plenty of individual time for each of the artists involved in the course!

Scott has been a professional fine artist since 1976 and has been painting in plein air for nearly as long. Scott received the Best of Show Award and the $50,000 Grand Prize at the 1998 Arts for the Parks show in Jackson, Wyoming with his painting of the Grand Canyon titled “Timeless Beauty.” He is represented by the Knox Galleries in Vail, Beaver Creek and Denver, the May Galleries in Scottsdale, the Mountain Trails Galleries in Santa Fe, Jackson Hole, and Sedona, and Pitzer’s of Carmel in Carmel. His work has been shown internationally and is in major collections around the world-especially popular in Japan, including the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC and Ford Motor Company. His work is used as covers for America West’s August 2001 in-flight magazine, Roadside Guide to Rocky Mountain National Park and Physical Geology, a college textbook. Feature articles about Jennings’ work have appeared in American Artist Magazine, Art of the West Magazine, Southwest Art Magazine, Focus Magazine and Art and Business News.
