Frank Webb AWS (DF), NWS    June 4 – 9, 2005 (Four Teaching Days)
Watercolor using Heart, Mind and Hand

Frank is one of the nation’s premier watercolor teachers. He brings energy and talent to his class, making painting exhilarating. The aim of this class is to re-create a new reality, establish unity, and to produce unique works. Participants are encouraged to recognize and nurture their personal vision, sharpen their craft, and awaken a critical view of their own production. Frank’s intelligent sense of humor and his whimsical style is appreciated by his students. Demonstrations will explore a wide variety of approaches. All styles of painting and levels of expertise are welcome.

For indoor work participants should bring landscape drawings or photos which will serve as a basis for a design approach to painting. Another alternative would be to bring a finished painting which could be redesigned. Bring a sketch pad and a soft, graphite pencil for making preliminary design drawings.

In demonstration and lectures, the instructor will clarify the use of design principles. All styles of painting and levels of expertise are welcome. A typical day begins with an hour and a half demo. Participants then paint their own subject with help as requested. One hour before the end of the day’s session, a group critique will explore the faults and glories of each work. The objective of the class is that each participant is invited to become his/her own best teacher, critic and audience.
