New to Dillman’s
Joy will begin the workshop with a portrait demo from the live model, teaching the principles of drawing, composition, anatomy, seeing in simplified shapes (gestalt thinking) and calculating values. Participants will complete many drawings and explore many techniques during this rigorous workshop. Joy will visit each easel to offer individual instruction. Participants will “capture a likeness” by learning to apply the formal elements and the basic principles of art along with the golden mean, plumb lines, comparative measuring, lighting, gesture drawing and by learning to avoid and correct common mistakes. Joy will also answer questions concerning portrait painting, photographing finished works, framing, entering competitions, accepting commissions and marketing.
