Bruce Neville    May 28 – June 3, 2006 (Five Teaching Days)
Creating the Mood in Architecture & Landscape — Watercolor

Bruce’s workshop will be very informative and a creative experience. Watercolor has become a passion and very much a part of his everyday life. He will explore all of the design elements. He works at a fast pace when he is doing demonstrations each day, but the pace of instruction will depend on the specific needs and level of experience of the participants. Bruce wants to give careful consideration to the participant’s interests and subject matter. The demo each day will relate to a different lesson for that day. An example would be doing a demo from “Skies and Clouds.” He paints in a loose style and emphasizes this in his teaching. He emphasizes drawing and value studies because of his architectural background. There will be a good deal of individual hands on instruction particularly to start off. There will be a nice blend of lectures, demos, painting time and critiques. Bruce’s class will be enjoyable and a relaxing experience for all participants.

Bruce must first have the fundamental visual skill of a drawing. This is combining imagination with rational thought, my private thought process that enables me to process my paintings. This is just a beginning to explore and develop my thinking process and to be able to convey that sensibility. My goal is to develop not a way of painting, but a way to think, interpret and create. Each of my paintings I hope conveys this unique experience leading the viewer into a new way of seeing and hopefully understanding my process.

I emphasize good drawing skills and will illustrate this each day of the workshop. It is essential to have a well-designed subject before beginning a painting and the only way to do this is combining imagination and ability to draw.
